Hi, I’m Beth, and I’ve been working with dogs for over 20 years...

My journey began when I brought home a Newfoundland puppy named Harvey, who soon grew to be 175 pounds. I wanted to take him everywhere with me, but found myself frustrated with how exactly to get this giant to “behave.” After working with numerous professionals, I was left with even more questions and I knew I had to learn more. In the summer of 2004, Harvey and I packed up our things and drove to Columbus, Ohio, where we spent the summer learning and receiving my 1st certification as a professional dog trainer. After returning home, I worked as a training manager for a large facility in Illinois before starting Harvey & Co. in 2006.

Since then, my training philosophy has evolved significantly, and I prioritize staying current with the latest scientific research on dog behavior through ongoing education and specialized coursework. I choose to focus on reactivity and aggression because I truly enjoy helping owners build clear, effective communication with their dogs—reducing frustration and helping dogs overcome fear in our complex world. My ultimate goal is to reduce the number of owner surrenders and behavioral euthanasias by supporting and educating pet parents who may be experiencing difficult situations with their dogs, emphasizing safety and positive reinforcement. Through applied behavioral analysis, ethology and husbandry, I help dog parents navigate complex behavioral issues, and provide hope that their dog is not a “lost cause.” 

I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer—Knowledge Assessed,( CPDT-KA), through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. I am also a certified FDM (through Kim Brophy’s L.E.G.S. program). I live in Wisconsin with my husband, our husky mix Sylvie, and our two cats, Frank and Mabel. When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me hiking the trails with my dog, or geeking out to dog behavior podcasts and books.
